This piece has an interesting patina due to its raku firing. It reminds me of an old penny, which is appropriate since the glaze is named Penny 4UR Thoughts. At approxiamtely 5 inches in diameter, it's perfect for holding change or jewelry.
 
For raku, I take the piece glowing hot from the kiln and drop it into a cast iron Dutch Oven filled with wood shavings. I let it burn for a few moments and then cap it, putting out the fire and reducing the oxygen in the container. The various glazes I use react to the reduction, producing random results. It's always an interesting glazing adventure with raku.
 
Each raku piece is polished with Micro-Crystalline Wax to help maintain the coloring. Please note this is not food safe.
