For this assignment, we were instructed to select one of the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and create a conceptual poster. I chose Article 26 - the Right to Education. I wanted to depict how a lack of education can be used to keep populations "in the dark," and severely impact the quality of life for individuals. Having access to an education can unlock multiple opportunities for a better standard of living.
The Lighthouse - Day
This concept is for an animated film. The location is a lighthouse high on a cliff, where the main characters live. The first scene will introduce us to the location, so will be a backed up shot of the lighthouse and surrounding area. We see the children that live in the lighthouse playing on the grounds and their mother hanging laundry. The mood is lighthearted and carefree.
The Lighthouse - Stormy
This second scene is later in the afternoon as a storm is rolling in. It’s started to get dark and there’s a flurry of activity as laundry is taken down off the line, and the lighthouse is lit up, serving as a beacon in the dark. The mood is stressful and foreboding.
Art Nouveau Advertisement
This exercise required me to select an Art Nouveau artist and then do an advertisement in that style. For my artist, I chose Henri Meunier. For my product, I chose my favorite morning drink...Mystic Chai. I tend to focus on realism in my art, so avoiding putting too much detail in this piece was quite challenging for me.
An achromatic drawing done in Photoshop for my Color and Design class. I had just attended the women's march, so when we had to draw our hand, this felt appropriate.
When we had to draw a hand for another exercise in my Color and Design class, I chose to use my existing hand drawing. The assignment was to use either warm or cool colors. I selected warm colors to capture the fiery energy and passion that comes with a rally.
For this project, we had to do a color study on a piece of artwork (I chose Stephanie Law's "True Reflections"). Once we broke the image down into around 16 main colors, we had to create an original piece of artwork with the same colors in the same proportions. I chose to maintain the subjects of the original artwork, but use a different style. Again, I also played around with different Photoshop brushes, but also did quite a bit of drawing with the pen tool.
